Description
Wydeneck, which was long used by the metal industry, is one of the largest transformation sites in north-west Switzerland. In addition to various forms of housing for up to 1,800 people, the site will in future offer space for small and large commercial enterprises, service uses as well as cultural and leisure facilities.
In a first step, transitional uses were initiated to open up the previously closed site and make it accessible to the population. In the meantime, tradespeople, cultural and creative professionals are bringing colour to the industrial area and helping to shape the transformation. Around 15 buildings have already been renovated to provide space for around 50 tenants in commercial premises, studios, hobby rooms and workshops. In addition, the Dornach day school run by the Bachtelen association relocated its school to the site in the summer of 2023 in the partially renovated former administration building.
Over the next 15-20 years, a diverse and innovative neighbourhood will be created in stages, with one third of the site becoming green and open spaces. This sustainable internal development in terms of spatial planning is supported by a mobility concept that is based on the "Dornach-Apfelsee" S-Bahn stop.
